Key features
They Pavement ant tends to forage as individuals around the group and are most active during the daytime hours, predominantly the morning and evening. Their genus is spread across most of Australia however, they are concentrated more along the coastal regions (they are less commonly found in cooler, wet areas).
The Pavement ant is a general scavenger and predator yet they also collect seeds but this isn’t prevalent amongst all the species. You might find them in your house as they seek out food and they can become numerous for short periods of time.
Their nests are commonly located underneath stones, concrete slabs and at the edge of pavement. They can be quite difficult to locate and thus managing them is usually focused at individual ants or a group of ants (this has traditionally not been that effective).
Food preferences
Proteins the Pavement ant feeds predominantly on proteins and oils, though they do occasionally seek out sugars such as honeydew.
