Bug Bomb and Insect Bomb FAQ
A1 Pest Control Sydney – Insect Control Bug Bombs FAQs
- Are Mortein Bug Bombs the best? See their Youtube video below. The comments are turned off, which sent me an alarm bell. If they are confident that they work well and the public are getting great value, why are the comments turned off?
Please feel free to email your comments, good or bad to me personally, bruce@a1pestcontrol.com.au
These Mortein control bombs were found locally at Coles Supermarket at Norwest in Sydney NSW. Very over priced IMO!
Insect Bomb & Bug Bombs Tips
Do I need to treat the entire house?
Yes, for the most effective results, it’s recommended to treat the entire house if you have an insect infestation.
German cockroaches may be an exception to this rule as they are commonly found in dinging areas only at the start of their infestations.
Check the label for the insect pests that the product is recommend to treat. See the Aldi bug bomb label below as an example:
How many cans do I need?
One can treats an average-sized room (16 cubic metres or a 4-square-metre floor area). If the area is large, you may need two cans.
Where Do I Buy The Best Cockroach Bombs?
It depends on whether you are after the most effective, the best value for money or the easiest to find access to them.
Maybe even a combination. I chose local to me at the Woolworths Metro Knightsbridge at Cherrybrook Sydney NSW.
It was here that I conducted a review of the Mortein Powerguard Insect Bomb with a staggering 9 month effectiveness claim, vs their own brand of First Force Bug Bombs.
I personally favour the First Force ones as they are cheap and they do a good job. What more could you ask?
Bunnings Insect Bombs
AKA “Fogger Bomb Large”
These were a little larger than other similar products available at Coles, Woolworths and Aldi, (150g vs 125g) but were a lot more expensive.
The labelling and warnings were helpful as they were more complete.Â
A little unrealistic though, as they claimed on the packaging that they would be effective for “full flea protection for 6 months” and there is “no escaping PestXpert Pro-fogger’s fine mist” – whatever THAT means!
Not sure how useful this stand would be:
Do I need to wash my bedding after using bombs?
Mortein bombs leave a fine residue on surfaces, but unless a bomb was set off near your bed, washing bedding isn’t necessary. However, if you feel uncomfortable, washing your bedding is an option.
Do I need to turn off the electricity?
Yes. These products are highly flammable, and even a small spark can cause a fire. If possible, turn off the electricity at the main switch. Otherwise, ensure all power points are off, the fire alarm is disconnected, and indoor gas appliances are turned off.
Can I use insect bombs if I have a fish tank that can’t be switched off?
All bug bombs are highly toxic to aquatic life. It’s recommended to move your fish tank or use an alternative product. Always turn off the electricity before using bug bombs.
How long should I stay out of the treated area?
You can re-enter after 2 hours. Then, open windows and doors to ventilate for 30 minutes before switching the electricity back on.
Should I remove my children’s toys?
Yes, children’s toys should be covered or removed, especially for young children who may put objects in their mouths.
Is it safe to use insect bombs if I’m sensitive to chemicals and fragrances?
No, as these products have residual activity. Mortein Control Bomb for example remains active for 3 months, while Mortein’s Flea Bomb lasts up to 9 months.
Important Reminder
Always read the label before use and follow the instructions carefully.

Do insect control bombs work?
Insect control bombs (or bug bombs) can be somewhat effective for surface-level pest problems, but they often fail to reach hidden pests, such as cockroaches or bed bugs that hide in cracks and crevices. In Sydney, where pests like German cockroaches and bed bugs can be persistent, A1 Pest Control recommends targeted treatments like residual sprays, baiting, and low toxic treatments for better results.
Do insect foggers really work?
Foggers work best for flying insects like mosquitoes or flies, but they are generally ineffective for cockroaches, bed bugs, and ants because they do not penetrate their hiding spots.
At A1 Pest Control, we suggest a professional pest management approach, including non-repellent insecticides and strategic treatments, to achieve long-term pest control in Sydney homes and businesses.
Do you have to wash everything after a bed bug bomb?
Yes, it is advisable to wash exposed items like bedding, clothes, and kitchenware after using a bed bug bomb. However, bug bombs are not an effective method for eliminating bed bugs, as they do not reach their hiding places. A1 Pest Control offers expert bed bug treatments, including heat treatments and residual sprays, for complete eradication in Sydney.
How long to stay out of the house after a bug bomb?
The recommended time is usually 2-4 hours, but always follow the specific product instructions. However, if you are dealing with pests like cockroaches, bed bugs, or termites, A1 Pest Control recommends professional pest control solutions instead of bug bombs for more reliable and long-lasting results in Sydney.

Ant Control Services
There are a few methods of getting rid of ants including Optigard ant bait gel. It will successfully reduce a population of ants in a residential or commercial setting. Â
Video Transcript: “Hi I’m Bruce from a1 pest control Castle Hill. I’ve just discovered a lot of ants outside a friend’s place of mine and what I’m doing is I’m doing a little experiment.
We’ve got this many ants as of today’s date, the third of October and we’ll revisit this within a few days and we’ll see how it goes.
But you can see the amount of ants that we’re establishing here and this ant bait “Optiguard” ant bait gel is gonna do its trick now.
They’re going to get all that ant bait back to the nest and hopefully destroy the colony within within a day or so I’d say so it’s Bruce from A1 Pest Control Castle Hill demonstrating our ant bait strategy.”

It is not uncommon for pest infestations to occur in vehicles as well as your homes, in this picture the infestation was black ants.Â
We treat the affected vehicles by baiting the ants with a sugar based gel in which they will consume and take back to the nest in which it spreads across the entire colony.Â
We then spray the latest pesticides on the market that most pests haven’t had time to adapt to. Following these steps, we will use a bug bomb around the wheel arches, under the cars chassis and most importantly inside the vehicle to eradicate the infestation swiftly.

Ant Control in Castle Hill: How to Get Rid of Ants in Your Home
Ants are a common problem in many homes, including those in Castle Hill.
These tiny pests can be difficult to get rid of once they establish a colony in your home. Ants can cause a lot of damage to your property and can contaminate your food. In this article, we will discuss some effective ways to control ants in your home.
Identify the Type of Ants
The first step in controlling ants in your home is to identify the type of ants you are dealing with. Different types of ants require different treatment methods.
For instance, some ants prefer sweet foods, while others prefer protein. Knowing the type of ants in your home will help you to choose the right bait for them.
Some common types of ants found in Castle Hill include black ants, carpenter ants, pharaoh ants, and fire ants.
Black ants are attracted to sweet foods, while carpenter ants are attracted to moist wood. Pharaoh ants are attracted to protein, while fire ants are aggressive and can sting.
Keep Your Home Clean
Ants are attracted to food and water sources. To prevent ants from entering your home, you need to keep it clean.Â
Sweep your floors regularly, wipe down your counters and tables, and take out the garbage regularly. Make sure to store your food in airtight containers and keep your pantry clean.
Seal Entry Points
Ants can enter your home through small cracks and openings. Seal these entry points to prevent ants from entering your home. Check your windows and doors for gaps, and seal them with caulk. Seal any cracks in your walls or foundation with silicone caulk.
Use Ant Baits
Ant baits are an effective way to control ants in your home. Ant baits contain a slow-acting poison that the ants will carry back to their colony. This poison will kill the entire colony, including the queen. Ant baits are available in gel or liquid form.
Place ant baits near the ant trails or where you have seen ants. Do not disturb the ants when you place the bait. It may take several days for the bait to take effect.
Use Ant Sprays
Ant sprays can be used to kill ants on contact. However, they do not kill the entire colony. Ant sprays are a temporary solution and should not be used as the only method of ant control. Use ant sprays in conjunction with ant baits.
Hire a Professional
If you have a severe ant infestation in your home, you may need to hire a professional pest control company. Pest control companies have access to more effective treatment methods and can help you get rid of ants in your home.
Conclusion
Ants can be a nuisance in your home. They can contaminate your food and cause damage to your property. The best way to control ants in your home is to keep it clean and seal entry points. Ant baits and sprays are effective methods of ant control, but you may need to hire a professional if the infestation is severe. By following these tips, you can keep your home ant-free.
Cockroaches Castle Hill
Cockroaches are one of the most common pests found in households all over the world. These insects are not only unpleasant to look at but also carry diseases and allergens that can affect human health.
If you live in Castle Hill and are dealing with a cockroach infestation, it’s important to know what you’re up against and how to tackle the problem effectively.
Identifying Cockroaches
There are several species of cockroaches found in Australia, but the most common ones are the German cockroach, the American cockroach, and the Australian cockroach.
These insects have a flat, oval-shaped body, six legs, and long antennae. They can range in size from small to large, depending on the species.
The German cockroach is the most common species found in households. It’s about 1.5 cm long, light brown or tan in color, and has two dark stripes on its back.
The American cockroach, on the other hand, is much larger, about 4 cm long, reddish-brown in color, and has a yellowish figure-eight pattern on its head.
The Australian cockroach is similar in size to the German cockroach but is darker in color and has a yellowish margin around its thorax.
Signs of Cockroach Infestation
Cockroaches are nocturnal insects and are most active at night. If you have a cockroach infestation in your home, you may notice the following signs:
Cockroach droppings: These are small, dark, and cylindrical in shape. You may find them in areas where cockroaches hide, such as under kitchen cabinets, behind appliances, and in cracks and crevices.
Egg cases: Cockroach eggs are contained in a capsule-like structure called an ootheca. These are usually brown in color and can be found in hidden areas like behind furniture or in cabinets.
Unpleasant odor: Cockroaches emit a strong, musty odor that becomes more noticeable as the infestation grows.
Sightings: Seeing live cockroaches in your home is the most obvious sign of an infestation. These insects are fast-moving and can be difficult to catch.
Preventing Cockroach Infestation
Prevention is key when it comes to cockroach infestations. Here are some steps you can take to reduce the risk of these pests invading your home:
Keep your home clean: Cockroaches are attracted to food and water sources, so keeping your home clean and dry can make it less appealing to them. This means regularly sweeping and vacuuming floors, wiping down counters and surfaces, and promptly cleaning up any spills.
Seal up entry points: Cockroaches can enter your home through small cracks and crevices. Seal up any gaps in walls, floors, and ceilings, and use weather stripping around doors and windows.
Store food properly: Cockroaches can easily access food that is left out on counters or in open containers. Keep food in sealed containers and store it in the pantry or refrigerator.
Fix leaks: Cockroaches are attracted to water sources, so fixing any leaky pipes or faucets can make your home less hospitable to these pests.
Dealing with Cockroach Infestation
If you already have a cockroach infestation, it’s important to take action quickly to prevent it from getting worse. Here are some steps you can take to eliminate these pests from your home:
Use insecticides: There are several insecticides available that are effective against cockroaches. These can be in the form of sprays, baits, or traps. Be sure to follow the instructions carefully and use caution when applying these products.
Hire a pest control professional: If you have a severe cockroach problem or would like to prevent cockroaches entering your home or commercial office, please call Bruce from A1 Pest Control on 0417 251 911 or send him an email at bruce@a1pestcontrol.com.au

“So this house is using Termgard termite protection.
If we open this up, sometimes it’s screwed down, but you can see it’s a piping system. It’s like a sprinkler system that’s underground that soaks the soil around the house.
The idea is that you should get this done every three years as a minimum, and that will soak all around the house and provide termite protection.
Now the owner has just told me that he’s using a product called Biflex.
It’s an insecticide called Bifenthrin and he’s been doing that every year. But that really doesn’t make any sense
because it’s got a three to five year lifespan and we recommend every three years if you’re using that termiticide.
But there’s something that’s better on the market and it’s got a very good reputation. It’s called Termidor and that’s a non-repellent termiticide which is different from the bifenthrin.
The bifenthrin will kill termites on contact but if you’ve got an incomplete barrier. Termites will still get through the gap.
With Termidor you don’t have to have a complete barrier around the house, as you just need to be in most of the places that are accessible for it to work because it’s non-repellent.
Which means that the termites will wander through it and won’t know they’ve been affected and it will return to the nest.
Using Bifenthrin, it doesn’t kill the nest in the long term at all, it just kills termites on the spot.
So if you’re in the Castle Hill area and you need more information about any of these products or termite inspections or termite protection, please give me a call it’s Bruce from A1

Termite Inspection Castle Hill NSW![]()

What is a Termite Inspection?
A termite inspection is a visual inspection of a property to identify the presence of termites and other timber-destroying pests. During the inspection, an experienced termite inspector will thoroughly inspect the property and look for signs of termite activity such as mud tubes, termite wings, and termite damage.
They will also inspect areas of the property where termites are most likely to be found such as the foundation, walls, roof, and subfloor.
Why is a Termite Inspection Important in Castle Hill?
Castle Hill is known for its beautiful homes and buildings, many of which are made of timber.
Termites are attracted to wood and timber, and the climate in Castle Hill provides a suitable environment for them to thrive.
A termite infestation can cause serious damage to a property and can be very costly to repair.
A termite inspection is important in Castle Hill because it can help homeowners identify a termite infestation early on and take the necessary steps to prevent further damage.
How is a Termite Inspection Conducted?
A termite inspection is conducted by an experienced termite inspector. The inspector will begin by conducting a visual inspection of the property and looking for signs of termite activity.
They will also use special tools such as a Thermal Imaging camera to check on unusual heat signals in internal walls and ceilings, a moisture meter to check for moisture in the walls and a sounding tool to tap on the walls and listen for hollow sounds, which can indicate termite damage.
The inspector will then inspect the areas of the property where termites are most likely to be found such as the subfloor, walls, roof, and outbuildings.
They will look for termite mud tubes, termite wings, and termite damage.
If the inspector finds evidence of a termite infestation, they will provide a detailed report outlining the extent of the infestation and recommendations for treatment.
A termite inspection is an essential process that every homeowner in Castle Hill should consider. It can help identify the presence of termites and prevent further damage to a property.
If you suspect that you have a termite infestation, it is important to contact a licensed and experienced termite inspector at A1 Pest Control as soon as possible. By taking proactive steps to prevent a termite infestation, you can protect your home and investment for years to come.
The threats of a termite invasion are very real. On average, 1 in 3 homes in Sydney will suffer considerable damage due to a termite infestation, and almost 60% of all properties in Sydney will at one point have a termite problem.
Video Transcript:
The only way to protect against a termite infestation is a routine termite inspection by professionals. Termite colonies are notoriously difficult to spot and might cause substantial damage before being discovered. A routine termite examination every 12 months is important for keeping your house termite-free. In high-risk areas examinations should happen each 6 months.
When is the last time you checked your property or organisation for termites? Our trained specialists specialize in highly accurate inspections. Our team even perform thermal termite assessments. Give us a call, and we will be happy to discuss your unique circumstance. Remember, prevention is the best option.
The above video is of an extensive termite infestation at a client’s home in Castle Hill. It was found during a renovation, which is pretty common in local homes in this area of the Hills District of Sydney.

End of Lease Flea TreatmentÂ
If you rent a domestic house or commercial building, it is essential to carry out a flea treatment once the contract runs out.
One of the most annoying types of pests in domestic buildings is fleas. The sources of a flea infestation are dogs and cats. “Grass” fleas or “Sand” fleas are misnomers for what is typically the cat flea, which attacks both dogs and cats. Pets can easily pick up flea larvae, or grown fleas from other animals. They then rapidly transfer them into the home: infesting bed sheets, carpets, rugs, and other parts of the property.

Pest control is an essential aspect of maintaining a healthy and safe environment in your home or property. Pests such as rodents, insects, and other unwanted creatures can pose a significant threat to your health and property.
In Castle Hill, pest control services are widely available to help homeowners and property owners get rid of pests and prevent future infestations.
Why Do You Need Pest Control Services?
There are many reasons why you might need pest control services in Castle Hill. Pests can carry diseases, damage property, and cause allergies and other health problems. Rodents, for example, can carry hantavirus and salmonella, while cockroaches can trigger asthma attacks and cause other respiratory problems. Pests can also damage your property, including your furniture, walls, and insulation.
The Importance of Early Detection and Prevention
One of the most important aspects of pest control is early detection and prevention. If you notice any signs of a pest infestation, such as droppings, gnaw marks, or strange odors, it’s important to take action immediately. Ignoring the problem can lead to a more severe infestation that’s harder to control.
Prevention is also essential in pest control. You can take steps to prevent pests from entering your home or property in the first place, such as sealing cracks and crevices, keeping your property clean and clutter-free, and storing food in airtight containers. Regular inspections and maintenance can also help you detect and prevent pest problems before they become more severe.
Pest Control Services in Castle Hill
If you’re dealing with a pest problem in Castle Hill, there are many pest control services available to help you.
These services can provide a range of solutions, from one-time treatments to ongoing maintenance plans.
One of the most common pest control services is pest extermination. This involves using pesticides and other chemicals to kill pests and prevent future infestations.
While effective, this approach can be harmful to the environment and may not be suitable for homes with pets or children.
At A1Pest Control, we only use low toxic and non-toxic methods which are safe for your family or staff.
Another option is integrated pest management (IPM), which is a more environmentally friendly and sustainable approach to pest control.
IPM involves using a range of methods to control pests, including biological controls, such as introducing natural predators or parasites, and cultural controls, such as altering the environment to make it less hospitable to pests.

” it’s Bruce from A1 Pest Control Castle Hill. If you want urgent pest control in Castle Hill, we can remove a large bee infestation quickly. They’ve gained entry through the weep holes and there’s a nest inside the wall cavity.
So we’re going to flush them out and kill off the colony.”
Unfortunately these wild bees are unable to be collected by a bee keeper or apiarist. If left alone they would have grown a colony or hive inside the wall cavity and honey would soon be dripping out of the walls.
We eradicated the problem for this client quickly as her son was severely allergic to bee stings and the colony had just entered their home.
A powerful air blowing duster is applied to the entry points and it is strongly recommended that these holes be proofed professionally to help prevent future infestations.

We are only 10 minutes from the city centre and Victoria Avenue.
Our working hours are from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Saturday is from 10am to 2pm.
